MECH ASSAULT for Xbox, published by Microsoft Game Studios, NZ rating M15, RRP $129.95:
If you’ve ever fancied the idea of being 12m tall and pretty much bulletproof, here’s your chance.
Set in the 31st century, Mech Assault is a third-person action-shooting game where you get to pilot the most powerful weapon available, the 12m-tall walking tank known as the BattleMech.
The storyline is a bit cliched but that really isn’t a problem _ stomping around as an army of one is too much fun to ignore. Everything in this game is a target, from bridges to buses.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to basically destroy everything in your path using any one of a dozen different BattleMechs. You can choose from the smaller stomping machines (weighing in at a mere 30 tons) or go for a larger beast with more stomping power but less speed.
While the whole game in general is great, it’s the environments that score the most Brownie points. The weather effects are simply amazing and the sounds in the game are incredible.
Especially the stomping.
