Way back in 1985, the splendiferously biggest, baddest, super-ubergroup to ever hit the recording studio had a massive hit with a song inspired by Bob Geldof’s Band Aid recording to raise money for famine relief the year before.
USA For Africa’s recording We Are The World featured anyone who was anyone in the music world of the 1980s: Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote it, Quincy Jones produced and it seemed like every artist who had hit the charts performed on it.
Now there’s a Japanese version.
I’m not sure why, or if there even really needs to be a reason for this kind of consummate entertainment, but it’s out there in all its glory, with Japanese impersonators filling the roles of everyone from Michael Jackson to Tina Turner and even Cyndi Lauper.
