The news that Telecom is about to launch new broadband deals has had a mixed response online, with many net users taking issue with the fact that Kiwis are still in the slow lane when it comes to online speed.
Even Prime Minister Helen Clark has had a dig at the price of broadband access recently, telling parliament that new initiatives are needed to get faster internet access at better prices. I can’t disagree.
The new Telecom deals mean more speed for less money but it’s still not enough. Prices for business customers are set to drop by up to 90 percent and speeds are to increase across the board, with the download speed of Telecom’s current entry-level $39.95 JetStream Go service from 256kbps to 2Mbps for no extra charge.
It’s a good start but keep trying.
Home consumers need to be treated as fairly as they are in other countries and our businesses need to be able to compete on a world level.
