Dear Oprah, got any holiday plans?

It looks like Oprah’s trip of Oz has been a big boost for our neighbours, with web traffic to the australia.com website up 120 percent in America after her first Down Under episode screened last week.

Maybe we need to encourage her to visit us … boost our own tourism industry. No, not New Zealand, just Southland.

Let’s face it, anything Australia can offer, we can match.

The Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge? We’ve got the duck pond at Queens Park and the band rotunda.

Posh restaurants with all their fine-dining menus? Cheese rolls from Bells.

Taronga Zoo? Esk Street on a Friday night.

’nuff said.

I live in the deep south of New Zealand, where smelly dairy cows are taking over from sheep in the livestock stakes. My hometown is the small but perfectly formed city of Invercargill, which is also the hometown of the original boy racer, Burt Munro. Find out more about me here.
